Banged Up Knicks End Trip Vs. Clips

The injury bug is hitting the Knicks hard in the final few weeks of the
season, which could probably be said for just about every team in the NBA.
It's all part of playing a long, grueling 82-game season.

Knicks veterans Tracy McGrady, Al Harrington and David Lee have been
fighting through various injuries over the previous few games. Wilson
Chandler and Eddy Curry have been ruled out for the remainder of the season,
the team announced last week.

To add much-needed depth, especially in the frontcourt court, it was no
surprise the Knicks added 7-footer Earl Barron, who could see his first
action in a Knicks uniform when New York visits the Los Angeles Clippers on
Easter Sunday.

The Knicks signed Barron to a 10-day contract just hours before Friday
night's loss at Golden State. Barron, who spent three seasons with the Miami
Heat from 2005-08, previously played for the Iowa Energy of the NBA D-League
where he averaged 16.2 points and 10.0 rebounds this season. He was the 33rd
call-up of the season.

"I don't know a whole lot (about Barron), but he's just a big guy and we
needed another one," D'Antoni said. "And we're looking forward to seeing him
play."

In a similar situation last season with various beat-up players, the Knicks
signed a total of six D-Leaguers late in year - Demetris Nichols Cheikh
Samb, Mouhamed Sene, Courtney Sims, Joe Crawford and Chris Hunter. The
Knicks invited Crawford and Hunter to training camp with the team this
season.

The injuries might be piling up for the Knicks, but their veterans are
showing a lot of heart by playing through them. Harrington battled an ankle
injury Friday in Oakland to score nine points against his former team, while
McGrady played in the first half despite a sore left knee. Lee, who missed a
game two weeks ago with tendinitis, recorded the first triple-double of his
career in the high-scoring matchup.

Lee finished with 37 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists, becoming the first
Knicks player to post a triple-double since Latrell Sprewell did so on Feb.
28, 2003. Lee also became the first player in the NBA to post at least 30
points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on March 5,
1976.

The Knicks will close out their five-game road trip in L.A. before heading
back to The Garden on Tuesday to take on the Boston Celtics.
